Bronson Larsen struck out four and scattered four hits over five innings Sunday, leading the Arizona Mudhens past AZ Smoke 11-0 in the 16u title game of the Triple Crown Sports Rubino Memorial at Snedigar Sports Park in Chandler.

After allowing a leadoff triple to Alex Rodriguez, Larsen needed only four more pitches to finish the first inning. From there, he never looked back. The only other extra-base hit Larsen allowed over the next four innings was a double by Fredy Jimenez. Juan Gonzales had Smoke’s other two hits.

The Mudhens scored two runs in the bottom of the first on an RBI groundout by Kyle Peschloff and a wild pitch that allowed Kenny Slatery to score.

Brendon Satran led off the second with a majestic home run to left, a blast estimated at 380 feet. Jack Zoellner followed with a single, moved to third on two outs and scored on a sharp single by Parker Gallegos.

The Mudhens blew open the game in the third, scoring seven times. Zoellner had an RBI double. Larsen and Dominic Joaquin had RBI singles.

Zoellner finished 2-for-3 with an RBI. Larsen drew two walks in addition to his RBI single in the fateful third.

“These guys won 11 out of 12 games over the last two weeks,” coach Ted Schuman said of his Mudhens, “and we haven’t held a single practice. They are naturals. You will see these guys make first team state down the road.”
