The High Desert Rattlers defeated the Arizona Finest 4-1 Sunday in the USSSA Spring Classic 11uAAA championship at Rio Vista Park in Peoria.

The first inning started out rough for Rattlers’ pitcher Mason Millett with three walks. Millett turned things around in the second, striking out three batters and setting a gamelong trend for the Rattlers. Millet fanned two more in the third, Mitch Allen had three in two innings of relief, and Mitch Arechavaleta capped it off by ending the game in the bottom of the sixth inning with a strikeout.

Finest successfully stole bases when they got opportunities and it paid off in the top of the fourth inning for their only run of the game. Austin Smith stole third and scored on an overthrow.

Drew McTier had a double in the top of the second for the Rattlers, followed by a single from Millet and a two-RBI single to right by Arechavaleta.

In the third, Allen plated Ofstedahl with a sacrifice. McTier had an RBI single, scoring on a single to left by Levine.

The win avenged an 8-6 pool-play loss to the Finest, the Rattlers’ lone loss of the weekend.
