The AZ Monsoon ended the 12u AAA USSSA Cinco de Mayo championship early Sunday, beating the Scottsdale Dirtbags 12-2 in four innings at Big League Dreams.

The Dirtbags actually started off strong. Nick Burger scored on Brayden Merritt’s double in the top of the first. Merrit then scored on a single to left by Gianni Tomasi.

Ryan Alexander hit an in-park home run to far left in the bottom of the first inning for the Monsoon, who then scored four times in the second.

Aidan Skaugrud and Cody Hulbert scored on Adrian Keehn’s double. Junior Mancilla drove in Keehn, and Noah Gry scored on Drew Swartz’s single, making the score 5-2.

The Monsoon extended their lead in the third with five more runs. Jake Macy scored on Alexander’s double. Alexander scored on Skaugrud’s double. Logan Ehnes and Skaugrud scored on Hulbert’s double. Gry drove in Hulbert with the inning’s final run.

The Monsoon turned a double play to hold the Dirtbags in the top of the fourth. In the bottom half of the frame, Swartz scored on Brett Budde’s double to left. Alexander ended the game by run rule with a double, plating Budde.
