The AZ Broncos beat the Hoyas 9-5 Monday for the 13u Majors championship of the USSSA Memorial Day NIT at Big League Dreams in Gilbert.

With eight runs scored in the first three innings, the game looked as if it would be a high-scoring affair. However, Broncos reliever Brant Chapin put that thought to rest, throwing the Hoyas off balance with his curveball.

Broncos coach Jeff Glosser said the Hoyas were a great fastball-hitting team, and so he turned to Chapin in the second inning.

Glosser praised his teams approach while running the bases.

“We were aggressive and we were able to score a few extra runs,” he said.

The Broncos were also aggressive at the plate, notching 12 hits.

Maybe the biggest hit in the game came from Christian Glosser. His two-RBI single in the bottom of the sixth gave the Broncos a bit of breathing room.

The Hoyas had nine hits. Antonio Coronado went 2-for-3, as did Ricardo Dominguez.
