Kevin Fowler struck out 14 batters Monday as the West Coast Nationals beat the Sol 4-2 to win the 14u title at the Super Series Stars & Stripes baseball tournament in Flagstaff.
Sol pitcher Nathan Chokey threw a two-hitter and struck out nine.
Connor Gorman and Trenton Stoltz had singles for the Nats.
The game was scoreless until the bottom of the fourth when the Nats broke through. Justin LaForce was hit by a pitch, Fowler walked and Cody Gorman walked to load the bases. Brett Robinson was hit by a pitch, forcing in a run. Alex Willm grounded out to second to score a run and make it 2-0.
The Nats added two in the fifth. Stoltz reached on an error and Ivan Torres walked. Connor Gorman’s well- placed bunt scored both runners.
The Sol scored twice in the seventh. Cole Coggins walked and Chokey singled. Tyler Daugherty hit a single to score a runner. Tim Coen singled to score another run. Fowler struck out the next batter to end the game. |
