The Dirtbags defeated the Litchfield Tigers Black 6-2 Sunday in the 12u Majors title game of the USSSA Fall State Championships at Victory Lane in Glendale.
The Dirtbags led start to finish, scoring three times in the top of the first inning. Nick Labella, Evan Williams and Ian McMillan drove in the runs.
The Tigers pulled to within one, 3-2, in the third on RBI by Tristan Poole and Matthew Dyer.
Poole caught a hard line drive and tagged first base for a double play in the fourth that ended a Dirtbags threat. A perfectly laid bunt from Justin Rosales in the bottom half of the inning advanced Brandon Flores to second and earned Rosales a single, but the Tigers were unable to capitalize.
The Dirtbags put away the game with two runs in the fifth. After Reid McLaughlin tripled down the line in right, Julian Diaz and Tyler Rice collected RBI, increasing the lead to 5-2.
The Dirtbags added another run in the sixth. Todd Furr stole second and scored on a single by McLaughlin. |
