The Sting displayed strong infield defense and strung together key big hits to clinch the title over a team that they had lost to 9-2 in pool play.

Right-handed pitcher Ben Davis registered the win, throwing four innings and forcing several ground outs that the Sting infield executed with routine.

The Rangers trio of left-handed pitchers, Tommy Martinez, Atreya Tadepalli and Casey Legumina, totaled six and one half innings pitched and six strikeouts.

Gallagher was a standout for the Sting defensively at first base and offensively at the bat, tallying three RBI and scoring a run.

Sting shortstop Jack Popkins contributed three hits, stole a base, batted in a run and scored a run in a solid all-around performance.

The Rangers made a late push, scoring on a bases-loaded single by Alex Murrieta in the sixth inning. Murrieta led the Ranger offense with two RBI, the other coming from a double he hit off the outfield wall in the second inning.

The Sting had gone 1-1 in pool play before defeating the Green Mountain Ragin’ Rams 7-5 in the semifinals.

The Chandler Rangers has not lost in tournament play heading into the championship game, defeating the Sierra Vista Stallions 5-4 in the semifinals by scoring three runs in the final inning.

The Rangers are a 13 and under team that had entered to play against older teams for the Fall Classic II tournament after winning Triple Crown Sports Fall Labor Day tournament and placing third in the Fall Nationals tournament in Las Vegas at their own age group.
