AZ Crush scored seven runs in the fourth inning Sunday, beating he Buzztails 7-6 to capture the 13u division title of the Super Series Trick or Treat Shootout in Tempe.
The Crush lost both pool-play games Saturday before claiming two wins in bracket play Sunday. They beat the Hawks 12-7 in the semifinals.
The Buzztails took an early lead, scoring three times in the bottom of the first. Crush starting pitcher Ryan Hildreth settled in and held the Buzztails scoreless until the sixth.
Austin Shaw led off the Crush’s big fourth inning with a single. Chase Tate singled, and Chris Collins followed with a two-RBI double. Devin Williams. singled, and Garrett Gonzales tied the game with an RBI single.
Micheal Scott singled, and Nathan Amaro put the Crush up with an RBI single.
Michael Campos drove in another run with a single. Garrett Redaja and Dante Deluca also singled i the inning.
The Buzztails rallied in the bottom half of the frame, loading the bases with one out. Campos fielded a hard grounder at second, tagged the runner and threw to Williams at first, who nabbed the throw with a big stretch to end the threat.
The Buzztails pulled within a run with a three-run sixth and loaded the bases with one out in the seventh. Tate, the Crush closer, entered and got an infield fly to Hildreth and a pop fly to Chris Collins to secure the championship. |
