Rick Rydalch’s big hits propelled the Angels White to the big dance – a berth in the Don Mattingly World Series in Albuquerque.

Rydalch hit a two- run triple in sixth inning Sunday and drove in two more runs in the seventh as the Angels overcame a four-run deficit and beat AZ Clash 7-4 at the Surprise Recreation Campus.

“The triple got us back in the game,’’ Angels coach Kevin Henthorne said. “Then he had the big hit that drove in two runs in the seventh.”

The victory in the final of the Don Mattingly National Qualifier gave the Angels a spot in the 17u national championship July 26-31. As winners of a national qualifier, the Angels avoid having to go through the state and regional qualifying process.

For the first five innings, the Angels had no answer for Clash starter T.J. Williams, scratching out just two hits. James Butkiewicz doubled in two runs in the fifth as the Clash took a 4-0 lead.

The Angels broke through in the sixth inning. D.J. Peterson was hit by a pitch. He went to third when Kyle Harrington singled. Kasey Coffman’s sacrifice fly plated Peterson to cut the gap to 4-1. After Nathaniel Causey walked, Rydalch tripled to make it 4-3. Williams got out if the jam with the lead.

In the top of the seventh, Alexis Batista led off with a single for the Angels. Taylor Lindsey slashed a single. Peterson walked. Herrington tied it on a sacrifice fly.

Coffman reached on an error that drove a across the winning run. Rydalch singled to drive in two more.

The Angels went to the Don Mattingly World Series last year.

“This is a much stronger team,’’ Henthorne said.
