With two wins Thursday, the Arcadia Titans extended their win streak five games and improved their overall record to 7-4.

In the first game of the day, the Titans added an impressive victory to their resume with a 3-2 win over the host Saguaro Sabercats on Thursday morning.

“We need to keep getting quality team efforts like we did out there today,” said Arcadia head coach Ken Rudolph.

The Titans broke through a 2-2 tie in the top of the sixth inning with a mix of timely hitting and luck.

Brendan Satran led off the inning with a bloop single to short right that crossed up the Saguaro second baseman and dropped in. Satran then proceeded to steal second base and scored a few batters later, when pinch hitter Colton Sanchez sent a screaming single up the middle to take a 3-2 lead.

Arcadia relief pitcher Mike Scannell came through in the clutch for the Titans. When relief pitcher Garth Miracle had to leave the game after getting two outs in the bottom of fifth inning, Scannell took the mound with the bases loaded and induced a grounder to end the inning.

Scannell pitched two more scoreless innings for the Titans, highlighted by a pickoff in the seventh inning. He had two strikeouts, including one to end the game.

“He was hitting his spots well,” said Rudolph. “His fastball and his curveball were both working great.”

The Sabercats went up 2-0 in the second inning when Alec Daugenbaugh and Josh Chapman scored on Jesse Swanson’s double to the wall in right-center.

Outside of the two-run double he allowed, Arcadia starter Gary Cornish pitched effectively. He struck out six, walked one and allowed two earned runs in four innings.

The Titans got on the board in the fourth when Thomas Schellhardt hit a leadoff double and scored on a single by Satran to cut the Sabercat lead to 2-1.

Arcadia tied the game an inning later when Max Schuman drew a bases-loaded walk to force in Eddie Lyon. The Titans had the bases loaded with no outs following the score but could do no more damage. Saguaro starter Kurt Jahnke struck out one and induced a double play to end the inning.

Jahnke allowed two earned runs in five innings. He struck out seven and walked four.

Saguaro put the leadoff runner on in both the sixth and seventh innings, but failed to capitalize.

The Titans traveled back to Arcadia in the afternoon and handedly defeated the Spartans.

Arcadia shortstop Jake MacWilliam put on a clinic at the plate, going 3-for-3 with two doubles, a walk and three RBI. Cornish added another three RBI for the Titans, going 2-for-2 with a triple and a walk.

Starter Sanchez pitched four innings of one run ball to pick up the win before surrendering to reliever Alan Frank. Sanchez struck out six and walked four.

Arcadia collected 12 hits and 11 walks and seven Titan batters had at least one RBI in the game.

After two days of rainouts, the Titans picked up two wins on Wednesday.
