Sophomore lefty Andrew Naderer came within two outs of a no-hitter Thursday, and the Arcadia Titans moved into playoff position with a clutch 4-0 victory over the Williams Field Black Hawks at Williams Field High.
Naderer struck out four and induced 12 ground-ball outs en route to a complete-game shutout. Williams Field (16-10, 11-3) collected its only hit of the game, a double to right, with one out in the seventh.
The win moved the Titans into 14th place in the AIA power rankings. They look to hold that spot today with a victory at Higley (5-17, 3-10).
After taking a 1-0 lead into the seventh, the Titans (16-11, 7-5) plated three more runs to secure the victory.
Preston McLain started the rally with a double and moved to second on a walk to Bucky O’Connell. Both runners then moved up a base on Eddie Lyon’s fly ball. After a walk to Jake MacWilliam loaded the bases, Tommy Berridge chased Williams Field starter Adam Frank with a two-RBI single to right. Thomas Schellhardt then plated MacWilliam with a single to left.
Berridge and Schellhardt drove in all of the Titans runs, collecting two-RBI each.
Arcadia played small ball to puts its first run on the board in the third. MacWilliam led off the inning with a single, stole second and advanced to third on a sac bunt by Berridge. He scored on a sacrifice fly by Schellhardt.
MacWilliam finished the game 1-for-3 with a walk, a stolen base and two runs scored. |
