The Arcadia offense ran on all cylinders Friday, and the Titans solidified their playoff position with a 12-7 victory over the host Higley Knights.
The Titans (17-11, 8-5) took scored three early runs and broke the game open in the in the top of the third. Mike Scannell started the inning off with a single and moved into scoring position when Brendan Satran reached base on an error. Both runners scored on a single to right by DH Max Schuman, giving Arcadia a 5-0 lead. Following a walk to Andrew Naderer, Jake MacWilliam launched a two-RBI double off of the top of the fence in left to make it 7-0.
Higley (5-18, 3-11) responded with two runs of its own in the bottom of the inning before Titan starter Colton Sanchez got out of the jam.
Arcadia added some insurance runs in the fifth and sixth innings that proved to be valuable.
Scannell and Satran reached base in the fifth and scored on a single by Preston McClain to give Arcadia a 9-2 lead.
Satran put up another run in the sixth when he deposited a solo homer over the wall the left. Schuman then singled and scored later in the inning on a sacrifice fly by Naderer.
The solo shot gave Satran a team-leading three big flies on the season. He led the Titans’ offense in the game, going 3-for-4 with a homer and two RBI. He also scored three times and walked once.
The Knights chased Sanchez in the bottom of the sixth, scoring a couple of runs on a wild pitch and a passed ball. Thomas Schellhardt relieved, but Higley got three more runs on an error and Jose Ruiz’s two-run single, cutting the Arcadia lead to 11-7.
Sanchez earned the victory for the Titans, giving up four hits and striking out six.
Arcadia added one more run in the top of the seventh. MacWilliam singled and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Scannell.
MacWilliam finished the day 2-for-4, with a double, two RBI and two runs scored. He also stole two bases.
Arcadia scored one run in the first inning after Tommy Berridge singled and scored on a single by Satran and two more runs in the second. Naderer singled, stole second and scored when MacWIlliam reached base on an error. MacWilliam scored a batter later on a single by Schellhardt.
Arcadia will face Coronado (20-8, 9-4) Tuesday at home in the last game of the regular season. The game will be a make-up match-up between the two rivals that was rained out earlier in the season.
