ASU capped one the school’s best regular seasons with an 8-6 victory Saturday at Stanford that gave the Sun Devils the Pacfic-10 baseball title outright and their first series win at the Sunken Diamond since 1997.

ASU finished the season 47-8 overall, 20-7 in Pac-10. The NCAA will name the 16 Regional host sites Sunday and the entire field on Monday.

Former Brophy star Drew Maggi homered twice for ASU. Another Brophy product, Riccio Torrez, hit a two-run homer as the Sun Devils won a back-and-forth contest. Reliever Brady Rodgers threw 3 1/3 innings and was the winner. Jordan Swagerty pitched ninth, struck out three and earned his 14th save.

Stanford led 5-4 with two outs in the seventh inning when Brophy alumnus Raoul Torrez reached base on an error. McClintock graduate Xorge Carillo singled up the middle, and Maggi singled. Former Sandra Day O’Connor standout Zack MacPhee hit a two-run single to right to the Devils ahead 6-5.

ASU added a run in the eighth on Deven Marrero’s RBI single. Stanford cut the gap to 7-6 in the bottom of the eighth.

Riccio Torrez doubled in a run in the top of the ninth.

Stanford got the tying run to second in the bottom of the ninth. Tyler Gaffney and Stephen Piscotty singled. A passed ball with two outs moved the runners to second and third. Swagerty struck out Kenny Diekroeger for the final out.
