Two former Rough Riders made sure the Sun Devils’ postseason baseball journey got off to a smooth start. Yavapai Commuity College transfers Kole Calhoun and Merrill Kelly propelled ASU to a 6-2 victory Friday night over Wisconsin-Milwaukee in the opening round of the NCAA regional at Tempe.

Calhoun, who graduated from Buckeye High School before attending the junior college in Prescott, went 2-for-2 with a homer and three RBI.

Kelly (10-2), a former Desert Mountain High School star, pitched eight strong innings for the Sun Devils, giving up three hits and one earned run.

Calhoun hit his team-high 14th home run of the season with two on in the third inning and broke open the game.

Sandra Day O'Connor graduate Zack MacPhee went 3-for-4 with a double, and Brophy graduate Riccio Torrez went 2-for-3 with an RBI double.

The Sun Devils will face Hawaii on Saturday at 7 p.m. at Packard Stadium at Brock Ballpark.  Hawaii beat San Diego 4-3 Friday.

San Diego will face UW-Milwaukee in an elimination game at 2 p.m.
