Drew Maggi put ASU ahead for good Sunday night with a two-run in the fourth inning as the Sun Devils beat Hawaii 8-4 in Tempe and advanced to the NCAA baseball super regional.
The Sun Devils will play host to the winner of the Arkansas- Washington State game, scheduled for Monday in Fayetteville, Ark. The super regional will start Friday or Saturday at Packard Stadium.
After trading leads back and forth, Maggi’s double into the left-field corner gave ASU a 5-4 lead.
The Sun Devils (50-8) reached the 50-win mark for the second straight season and 18th time since 1959.
Starter Jake Borup (11-1) was the winner. He pitched six innings and gave up six hits and four runs.
Mitchell Lambson pitched two perfect innings, striking out four. Jordan Swagerty threw a scoreless ninth for the Sun Devils.
ASU’s Kole Calhoun hit a homer, his third of the regional, and the former Buckeye High School star was named the Tempe regional MVP. Deven Marrero had a two-run homer for ASU.
Sean Montplaisir belted a two-run homer to give Hawaii a 4-3 lead in the top of the fourth.
