Eric Migueles started the scoring Sunday morning and finished off the game on the mound as the Tucson Aztecs breezed to the Arizona PONY-13 baseball championship.

Migueles blasted a two-run double in the bottom of the first and pitched a scoreless sixth inning as the Aztecs beat the Desert Dragons from Scottsdale 14-2 at Copper Ridge, advancing to the zone championships July 24 -28 in Fullerton, Calif.

The Sierra Vista Outlaws beat the Tucson Yarddogs 7-2 for the PONY title and advance to the zone championships July 29-Aug. 3 in Whittier, Calif.

Giovanni Orozco started the game for the Aztecs and went five innings. Orozco and Migueles combined for 10 strikeouts.

At the plate, Migueles finished the game going 3-for-3 with three RBI. He was hit by a pitch in his other plate appearance.

Orozco had two singles and an RBI. Tommy Hodges had a double and a single.

Alex DiMascio scored both the Dragons’ runs, driven in by Travis Geyer on a bunt and a single.

In the PONY final, Jeremy Murray and Esteban Serino combined to pitch the Outlaws to victory.

Matt Thrasher had two hits, Matt Duce had three hits, including a triple, and Jacob Deanda had three hits with a double in the victory.
