The Arizona Firebirds, who finished fourth in the Connie Mack state tournament, made the most of a second chance and open Connie Mack World Series play Friday night.

The Firebirds, who received a bid to the regional after other teams declined, open play against the East Cobb Yankee from Georgia at 5:15 p.m. (New Mexico time) in Farmington.

The Firebirds have a history of making the most of a second chance. In 2006, the Firebirds finished second in the regional but went to the World Series because the regional champion was disqualified.  The Arizona team won the World Series.

The roster includes: Jorge Flores, Jake Winter, James McDonald, Kendall Konopa, Steve Casey, Nick Diamond, Trever Allen, Russell Vaughan, James Farris, Michael Benjamin, Zach Davies,  Andy Nist,  Jacob Doyle, Joey Danner, Zak Johnson, Cole Gleason, Ryan Casillas, Jake Peevyhouse, Konner Wade and Jake Cole.
