Steve Casey homered to spark a five-run fifth inning Tuesday night as the Arizona Firebirds beat the Longshots 9-2 in Farmington, N.M. at the Connie Mack World Series.
The Firebirds survived in the double-elimination tournament. They will face the host team, the Strike Zone Cardinals, at 7:30 p.m. (New Mexico time) Wednesday.
The Cardinals won their first two games before falling 2-0 to the DBAT Mustangs on Tuesday.
The Firebirds led the Longshots, from the Chicago suburbs, 3-2 going into the top of the fifth. Jorge Flores and Michael Benjamin singled. An out later, Casey came through with a homer.
Jake Peevyhouse followed with a double. Russell Vaughan singled to make it 7-2. Jame McDonald later plated Vaughan. |
