Ian Sanger was the hitting and pitching star Thursday as Scottsdale routed Surprise 12-2 for the Cal Ripken 12-70 state championship at Surprise Recreation Campus.

Sanger's two-out, two-run double was the big blow in a six-run second that blew open the game for Scottsdale, which now will travel to Bakersfield, Calif., for the Pacific Southwest Regional. At stake is a berth in the Ripken World Series in Aberdeen, Md.

Sanger finished with two doubles and a single at the plate and was the starting and winning pitcher. He was named the team MVP for the tournament.

The Scottsdale roster includes Ty Macias, Jack Melbostad, Tate Matheny, Collin Wilfong, Luke Rubenzer, Brady Bocks, Brandon Berger, David Evans, Ian Sanger, Kaleb Young, Hunter Bross and Payton Kruidenier.

12u-60 Division

Logan Woodward doubled to drive in Caleb Price and Alex a Adams in the sixth inning as Dynamite rallied to beat RAMMS 2-1 and advance out of the losers' bracket. Dynamite advances to the championship round against Somerton. The teams will play at 5:30 p.m. Friday. If Dynamite wins, the teams will play again at 7:30 p.m.

Price singled to start the winning rally. Adams was hit by a pitch. Woodard followed with his double.

Price pitched a complete game and struck out five.

RAMMS remained alive in the early game with a 3-2 win over Surprise. Chris Ashton and Asher Martinez singled with one out in the sixth and scored on a two-run double by Matt Harris.

Harris also made a nice catch of a twisting pop up to end the game and eliminate Surprise from the tournament.

11u Division

Surprise beat Dynamite 12-7 to conclude the 11u tournament. RAMMS wrapped up the championship with two wins Wednesday night.
