Despite missing out on the semifinal round, the Arcadia Little League All-Stars (11/12 division) made some memories during the opening round of the District 6 championship tournament Tuesday.

In the first game of the tournament, Arcadia overcame an early deficit to defeat the Desert Foothills All-Stars 10-9 in thrilling fashion.

With the game tied 9-9 in the bottom of the sixth, Arcadia’s Joe Matsock led off the inning with a double. Arcadia then loaded the bases for Austin Khamis, who drove in Matsock with an RBI single to win the game.

“This was one of the best games I've ever been involved with,” said Arcadia head coach Brad Ottomeyer. “It was great to watch them come back.”

Matsock also stood out in the field for Arcadia. The young outfielder made two spectacular catches in right to rob Desert Foothills of extra bases.

After surrendering six first-inning runs, Arcadia slowly fought back into contention thanks to strong pitching and timely hitting, said Ottomeyer.

Arcadia tied the game 6-6 in the fourth before going ahead 9-6 in the fifth. Desert Foothills then set the stage for the dramatic finish, tying the game 9-9 in the top of the sixth.

ATH for Tuesday:

Victory Lane Sports Park will be holding an Independence Day extravaganza this weekend that is sure to have a little bit of something for everyone.

Sports fans will have the opportunity to watch several leagues throughout the night including fast pitch softball and men’s league baseball.

Additionally, fans can check out a slew of impressive vehicles in between innings at the car show. Victory Lane will shut down a few fields in order to host the event. Prizes will be given throughout the night in a number of "Best of" categories.

And no Independence Day party would be complete without fireworks. All patrons at Victory Lane will be in great position to view the fireworks set off by the nearby Wet N Wild water park.
