Saint Mary’s graduate Dallas Escobedo and Canyon Del Oro standout Kayla Bonstrom faced off against each other last week at the Under Armour All-America Softball Game at ESPN’s Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando.

Escobedo’s Team Rally defeated Bonstrom’s Team Hype 9-4 in the event, which showcases 30 of the top high school players from around the country.

Both Arizona players performed well in the match-up.

Escobedo collected a single that helped spark a three-run fifth inning for Rally.

Not to be outdone, Bonstrom knocked in Team Hype’s first run of the game with a single in the fourth inning.

“Playing with some of the best players in the country was definitely a great experience,” said Bonstrom. “Hitting off of those pitchers and being in that atmosphere helped me improve as a player.”

Bonstrom will head back to Canyon Del Oro next season. Escobedo will look to perform at the next level with the Arizona State Sun Devils.

ATH for Wednesday:

AZ Quicksilver overcame a slow start at the USSSA 16uA World Series in West Covina, Calif. to finish as the tournament runner-up.

After going 1-2 in pool play, Quicksilver went 4-1 in elimination play, falling to the Sudden Impact Elite 10-1 in the championship game.

Quicksilver got off to a quick start on elimination Saturday, defeating the Titan Softball Club of Chandler 12-0 in three innings. Following the big win, Quicksilver eeked out a 6-5 victory over AZ Scorpio.

In the final game of the day, Quicksilver pounded the So. Cal Renegades 13-0 thanks to a dominating performance by pitcher Dana Del Solglio.

Del Solglio retired the side in the top half of the first inning before coming to the plate in the bottom half to help herself. With the bases loaded, Del Solglio nailed a three-RBI triple in what would become an eight-run inning for Quicksilver.

On Championship Sunday, Del Solglio and Christi Farrell pitched well, and the team advanced to the championship game with some help from the entire Quicksilver offense.

Quicksilver lost a close 3-2 battle to the Sudden Impact Elite to start the day. Despite the blow, the team battled back to earned a championship berth with a clutch 12-7 win over the San Diego Tsunami. With the game tied at 6-6, the Quicksilver offense exploded for six runs.

The win gave Quicksilver a chance to face off against the Sudden Impact Elite in the championship game.
