As I work away the day from behind this keyboard, I’m jealous of those fans at ballparks nationwide getting to celebrate Opening Day. Except for a group at Chase Field. They’re winners no matter what the hometown team does, and I’m happy to have helped make them that way.
Five people won Opening Day tickets in The Ledger Opening Day Giveaway. There were also winners of plaques from Marty’s Trophies and jewelry from Glasu, plus some folks who won tickets for other games.
Today, though, is Opening Day. Capital O, capital D. Should be a national holiday (heck of a lot more fun than Thanksgiving). Everyone should get the day off and a ticket to the ballgame. In fact, it should be like Cincinnati and we all go to the Opening Day Parade first. Way cool.
So congratulations to all winners. We are pleased to reward you for reading The Ledger, and there will be more chances to win tickets and stuff as the season progresses.
To Joseph Guererro, Kim Pritt, Troy Gonzales, Katherine Stevenson and David Dowell, however, here’s a special congrats for scoring seats to Opening Day. Hope you had a good time, the kind of good time you remember for decades.
To everyone else, drop me a line and tell me how you want to go to a ballgame, too. You can’t always get what you want, but sometimes you get what you need. And everyone needs at least one visit to the Yard every year.
Especially those of us stuck doing something other than celebrating the beginning of another glorious season of the best sport in the world. |
