How ASU baseball is regarded in the rankings and more for Friday, brought to you by the Arcadia Tavern.

1. Difference of opinion: ASU is ranked No.2 by Collegiate Baseball. The Sun Devils are No. 3 in the ESPN/USA Today poll. But somehow they are No. 11 in Baseball America’s rankings. I can’t recall ever seeing such a disparity between a set of national rankings.

2. Tougher schedule: The Sun Devils start a tougher part of their non-conference schedule Friday night. They host a weekend series with Auburn, then head to California to take on Cal State-Fullerton.

3. Longer distances for Little League: Queen Creek and Tucson American signed up to run pilot programs to play on fields that feature a 50-foot pitching distance and 70-foot base paths. Standard Little League fields have 46-foot pitching distances and 60 feet between bases. It may be time to adjust distances that were designed to accommodate 8-12 year olds more 70 years ago.

The List for Thursday:

1. Slinging Samantha: ASU freshman Sam Parlich beat Creighton Tuesday run her record to 4-1. Parlich, who starred at Basha, has been impressive in spot duty.

2. A sad note: Robby Mayasich, the Brophy student who died after being hit by a car while he was running to raise money for charity, is mourned by the lacrosse community as well as others throughout the Valley. Mayasich played on the Brophy lacrosse team.

3. Another sad note: Bri Matthews, a star with the Firecrackers and OC Batbusters who had committed to Arizona, killed herself. The Arizona coaching staff showed up at her memorial service in California last week.

The List for Wednesday:

1. Dynasty in the Desert: The Phoenix Polar Bears hockey team is in the Thorne Cup final again. The Bears have won it six times, including last season.

2. Consistent: The Polar Bears have at least made the final four of the league’s playoffs every season for 10 years.

3. Working overtime: The Polar Bears won three overtime games in their two best-of-three playoff series this season. Both series were on the road.

Three stars of the week, brought to you by the Arcadia Tavern.

1. Ryan Castellini pitched six strong innings as Arizona Nitro won 14u Division 1 title of the Triple Crown Sports Spring Championships I baseball tournament.

2. Dee Nelson of the AZ Shockwave pitched a shutout to win the 14u B title of the TCS Hit-it-Hard Championships softball tournament.

3. Nate Johnston scored the winning goal in overtime Sunday as the Phoenix Polar Bears hockey team won its WSHL conference final series opener against Fresno.
