Eleven CAYFL players have been selected to the West All-Star team for the 2010 Under Armour American Youth Football All American Game on Jan. 2 in Tampa.

The 11 players, four coaches and two student assistants will be announced during a public ceremony Tuesday at Dick’s Sporting Goods at Arrowhead Towne Center in Glendale. The event will include interviews and prize giveaways and is open to the public.

The 11 players selected include quarterbacks Sammy Sasso of Chandler Youth Football and Brad Nordstrom of Scottsdale Youth Football. Sasso helped lead the Phoenix All Stars to a second-place finish at the AYF National Championships earlier this month. Nordstrom was the quarterback for the Scottsdale Firebirds Jr. Midget division team that finished third.

Other players selected include Cutter Hart of Buckeye Youth Football; Eric Castillo, P.J. Alvillar, Quinten Pierce and Corey White of Desert West; Joe Nauert and Nick Carovillano of SYF; and Trey Lauer and Bobby Delgado of Southeast Valley.

Pierce, White, Hart, Delgado and Lauer also were part of the Phoenix All Star team. Carovillano and Nauert were teammates on the Midget division Firebirds who lost the national-title game in overtime.

Dee Grayer of CYF will be the head coach. Curt Bruggman of SYF will be offensive coordinator. Eric Lauer (running backs) and Bob Delgado (defensive backs) of SEV will assist.

“It’s a great opportunity for these players,” Grayer said. “These are top-quality players from Arizona who have a chance to play alongside and against some of the other top players from around the country.

“The practice time they will get over there with this caliber of players is the most valuable thing they’ll get out of the trip.”

Two former CAYFL players, D'Amani Grayer of CYF and Tyler Bruggman of SYF, will be youth assistants, Grayer on defense and Bruggman on offense. Grayer played in the game last year, and Bruggman was a quarterback for the West team in the Football University Youth All-American Bowl, held in conjunction with the U.S. Army High School All Star Game.

The West stars will play the East stars on Jan. 2 at Tropicana Field, home of the Tampa Bay Rays, and practices/activities will take place at Walt Disney Sports Complex.
