The Scottsdale Firebirds soared over the South East Valley Thunder 44-0 Saturday at Pecos Park in Phoenix, remaining undefeated in the Midget division.

Four different players scored for the Firebirds (5-0): Danny Jackson, Jack Haddon, Cules Rose and Adarian Limbs, who had two rushing touchdowns which combined for 80 yards.

Limbs was first to put the Firebirds on the board with a 35-yard touchdown run up the left sideline, spinning off defenders along the way early in the first quarter. Limbs added on another TD just before the end of the quarter, a 45-yard run aided by a key block form Nick Mendoza at the 10, putting the Firebirds up 16-0.

The Thunder (3-3) looked to respond after Limbs’ first TD, including an energizing 60-yard run down the left sideline by Brayden Kartchner. But the Firebirds forced a turnover on downs.

The second quarter was much of the same, with the Firebirds tacking on two more touchdowns – a 40-yard run by Jackson and a 30-yarder from Haddon as the first half expired, increasing the lead to 34-0.

The Thunder defense kept their composure throughout the game, and key stops from the defensive line and impressive efforts from the likes of linebacker Kaden Mendoza slowed the Firebirds.

Scottsdale scored on defense, too, with a safety on a punt attempt.

Haddon stripped and recovered the ball for the Firebirds, which led to the game’s final score, a 40-yard sprint from Rose.
