In an all-Dawgs contest, Gilbert Red came out on top 22-6 over Gilbert Silver on Saturday at Highland Junior High in the first round of the Phoenix AYF Pee Wee playoffs.

Silver scored their sole touchdown on a deep pass to Hunter Dean from quarterback Brandon Schimpz.

“I am very proud of the boys, and they played very hard,” said Silver coach Greg Mills.

PeeWee Saints 6, CYF Crushers 0

Dysart came out on the winning end of a great defensive struggle with host Chandler at Basha High School.

Davaughn Wallace scored the game’s only touchdown when he intercepted a pass and returned it for a score. The Saints then held the Crushers scoreless to secure the win.

“It was a defensive battle, and we won the battle," said Saints coach Mike Bounds. “We tell our kids that offense wins games but defense wins championships.”

Crusher Justin Nelson had an interception. Jairus Tate, Braden Flynn, Lad Hervey and Henry Lecky all stood out on defense as well.

PeeWee Destroyers 32, Bolts 0

South East Valley crushed Buckeye at Desert Vista High School advance to the second round of the playoffs.

Running backs Jaden Brooks and Byron Murphy led the onslaught. Brooks ran for 200 yards and two touchdowns. Murphy added another 150 yards and two touchdowns.

Destroyer quarterback Joey McCarty and receiver Tyler Jones had good chemistry all game. Jones had about 80 yards receiving, including a 60-yard screen pass for a touchdown.

Middle linebacker Chad Porter led the Destroyer defense. He finished with about 15 total tackles.

PeeWee Firebirds Gold 22, Outlaws 16 (OT)

Scottsdale came away with an overtime victory over Mesa at Sky.ine High School to advance in the PeeWee playoffs.

The Firebirds rallied from a 16-8 halftime deficit and scored the tying touchdown with 20 seconds left in the fourth quarter on a short run by Kyle Springer. The Birds marched down the field with just under two minutes thanks to nice plays by Jake Welshiemer and Kyle Berry.

The Outlaws won the toss in overtime but were quickly stopped by the Firebird defense. Springer then scored his third touchdown of the game to give Scottsdale the win.

Berry led the Firebird defense with an interception. Linebackers Austin Shirley and Riley Hammel also played well.

Outlaws quarterback Bobby Manning threw two touchdown passes. He found Michael Davenport for a 40-yard score and later hit Kyle Van Haren on a 60-yarder.

PeeWee Cougars 49, Irish 0

Chandler ran on all cylinders en route to a solid first round victory over North West Valley at Basha High.

Kyeler Burke led the offense with five touchdowns. The speedy back ran for four scores and caught another from quarterback Jake Lewis.

The entire Chandler defense played well to earn the shutout. JJ Parsons stood out for the unit. He recovered a fumble and returned it for a touchdown.

Jr. Midget Falcons 28, Ravens 3

Fountain Hills advanced in the Jr. Midget division with a win over South East Valley at Desert Vista.

Jr. Midget Lumberjacks 20, Stars 18

Chandler held off a second-half Phoenix rally at Basha High.

Lumberjack Antonio Campanella led the offense with two rushing touchdowns. Austin Lowe added another touchdown run for Chandler.

The offensive line, led by Zack Fullmer and Dustin Woodard, did a great job opening up holes for the backs.

Lumberjack quarterback Austin Brittingham also made several key passes and scrambles in the game.

The Chandler defense was led by Alberto Lopez, who made a clutch interception in the fourth quarter.

Defensive ends Zack Fullmer and Robert Reynolds also played well.

The Stars were down 20-0 at halftime but came back with three second-half touchdowns.

Quarterback Daniel Bridge-Gadd led the comeback with two touchdown passes. He found Brody Azbill and Devon Miller for scores.

Bridge-Gadd also ran for a 20-yard touchdown in the waning minutes of the game to bring the Stars within two points of a tie.

The Lumberjack special teams unit preserved the victory by stuffing Phoenix on all extra point attempts.

Jr. Midget Cobras 44, Heat 6

South East Valley delivered a dominant win over Chandler in the first round of the Junior Midget playoffs at Desert Vista.

Quarterback Zack Wade led the offense with three touchdown passes, including one big score to Michael Ryan.

Running back TJ Robert added 100 yards rushing and two touchdowns. Marcus Maldanato also scored a touchdown on the ground.

On defense, Broderick Drew pulled down two interceptions. Riley Rhodes also intercepted a pass.

Defensive linemen Chris Moore and Brady Price controlled the Heat offensive line and stuffed the run.
