The South East Valley Rebels beat the North Phoenix Gladiators 24-7 Saturday in the AYF Cadet division first-round playoffs at Paradise Valley High School.
The Gladiators were seeded eighth and the Rebels ninth.
“The Rebels were the most physical team we faced all season,” head coach Antwine Beamon said. “They also have a group of kids that’s older than ours.”
Beamon mentioned running back Cameron Katz, who’s improved his running and tackling throughout this season. Beamon also said Aiden Beamon made some key plays including the team’s only score.
Cadet Firebirds 32, Aztecs 0
Sixth-seeded Scottsdale Firebirds shut out 11th-seeded Desart West at Chaparral High School.
Ricky Manning started the scoring with a 52 yard run, followed by a 38 yard TD pass to Blake Storey from Anthony Chauhan. Robbie Clark caught a 26-yard pass from Kylan Weisser, and Jack Johnston had his first career rushing touchdown from 1 yard out.
Weisser also went 4-for-4 on kicked extra points.
Jr. Pee Wee Firebirds 22, Dawgs Silver 8
Eleventh-seeded Scottsdale defeated sixth-seeded Gilbert at Highland Junior High School.
Scottsdale coach Mark Salzman praised the performances of Harrison Copoloff, Samir Rahman and Blake Sprenger.
“With our discipline, we showed we’re capable of running with anybody,” Salzman said.
Cadet Pumas 26, Lions 6
The Pumas prevailed in an all-Chandler match-up at Basha High.
Quarterback Ty Sifferman scored twice for the Pumas. JD McLaughlin and Amil Merriweather also had touchdowns.
Cadet Wildcats 36, Vipers 12
South East Valley dropped Chandler at Desert Vista High School.
Coach Greg Gavel praised the performances of Brandon Gavel, Ricky Pearsall, and Wesley Aaron. Gavel said Carter Crawford, Alex Vogel and Dylan Recht showed improvement as the season progressed.
Jr. Pee Wee Broncos 44, Buckeyes 6
Poston Butte rolled past Cave Creek/Carefree in a Jr. Pee Wee invitational game at Desert Arroyo Junior High School.
Buckeyes coach Vincent Marano said Steve Senatro, Caleb Weaver and Josh Ringwald were among his most improved players. |
