Ty Siffermann kicked the game-winning conversion after a 2-yard touchdown by Amil Meriwether in the third quarter.
“We had been working on it all year, and we practiced it this morning,” Chandler coach Keith Burke said. “(Ty) said he was confident he could do it, so we went for it.”
The win earned the Pumas a spot in the AYF Regional Championship game and a berth in the Under Armour AYF National Championships in Florida in December.
“The kids are excited, the parents are excited, we’re just all excited,” Burke said. “We played a great game today, and we have a fun opportunity to go to Florida.”
The Pumas did not win without a fight.
The Saints took the lead in the second quarter on a 35-yard touchdown run by Talianuu Tanai. Dysart then opted for a 1-point conversion pass from Jordan Gourley to Nainoa Shin to make the score 7-0.
The game picked up the pace after the touchdown play but started slowly as the third-seeded Saints and fourth-seeded Pumas could not produce a first down until the end of the second quarter.
