The Scottsdale Firebirds shut out the Chandler Blitz 32-0 Saturday at Chaparral High School to secure the 2009 CAYFL Midget division championship.

Firebird running backs Nick Carovillano and Jordan Schlueter put on a clinic throughout the game. Carovillano busted through Blitz tacklers all day, amassing 62 yards rushing and two touchdowns.

Schlueter’s speed and moves offset his teammate’s bruising power as he ran for 65 yards and one touchdown, including a 21-yard scamper around the left side in the first quarter.

The Firebirds put their first touchdown on the board when receiver Zach Kotoske pulled down a pass from quarterback Brian Woodward for a 21-yard score.

The Firebird defense completely shutdown the Blitz offense, holding the opposition to 9 yards rushing and 64 yards passing. The Firebirds also intercepted two passes.
