Hamilton High School safety Devon Carrington has given a spoken commitment to Stanford, ESPN reported on its website Monday.

"I just committed to Stanford," Carrington told ESPN. "I just got off the phone with coach (Jim) Harbaugh and told him I was ready to do this and he was pretty excited about it. Stanford was my first offer, and they have been the school recruiting me harder than anyone else from the beginning."

As a junior, Carrington had 77 tackles, four sacks and two interceptions for the team that won the 5A-I state championship. An all-5A second-team selection, Carrington was ranked in the Top 150 by ESPN.com. He reportedly received offers from Cal, Arizona, Arizona State, Washington, Washington State, Oregon, Notre Dame and Northwestern.
