Midway through the fourth quarter of the USC-ASU game Saturday night, an interception and fumble play occurred that seems destined for highlight shows and thousands of YouTube views.

The ball was touched by numerous players and never hit the ground. By The Ledger's count, the ball was touched by 10 players, if you include the center Jeff Byers and quarterback Matt Barkley.

Barkley threw a pass that ASU linebacker Mike Nixon tipped. It was then tipped by USC wide receiver Bryce Butler. Several players batted the ball, and it bounced off one Sun Devils’ foot before ASU safety Clint Floyd gained control near midfield. He ran it to near the USC 20. He was tackled and the ball came loose and was batted around more – still without touching the ground – before ASU cornerback Terell Carr gained control. He was moving in the wrong direction and was brought down at the USC 36.

As might be expected, the play was reviewed by the officials. But it stood.

Heck, maybe they just wanted to see it again.
