  • John McNulty has a plan for Cardinals QBs
    Arizona Cardinals update:
John McNulty didn't have to say he was unhappy when the Cardinals denied the Bucs permission to interview him for their offensive coordinator's job a couple weeks ago.
Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt said it for him. McNulty wasn't happy because NFL coordinator's jobs don't open often. Who knows if McNulty will get another shot at one? It's not often a good friend, in this case Greg Schiano, gets a head coaching job.
But McNulty also understands that the NFL is a business, at every level. He's under contract with the Cardinals, so he's going to make the best of his ...

  • Cardinals hire Frank Reich as assistant

Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt finalized the structure of his coaching staff this week, moving receivers coach John McNulty to quarterbacks and hiring former NFL quarterback Frank Reich to coach receivers.
Reich, 50, was a member of the Colts coaching staff from 2008 through last season and spent part of the time coaching receivers.
He played in the NFL from 1985 through 1998, spending most of that time with the Bills.
The quarterbacks coaching position opened when Whisenhunt fired Chris Miller shortly after the season. The Cardinals interviewed several candidates for both the quarterbacks and receivers coaching job. McNulty’s ability to coach both ...

  • A chair for a Hall of Famer

Mark Dalton, the Cardinals vice president of media relations, and wife Kathy were sitting in the bar at Shula's in Indianapolis Saturday night, waiting for a table, when Dalton noticed an elderly man standing and waiting.
The bar was crowded, Dalton offered his seat to the man, who thanked him and took it.
The conversation, Dalton said, went something like this:
"So," Dalton said, "how's your day been?"
"Actually," the man said, "it's been a very good day."
"Oh, yea?" Dalton responded. "Why was it so good?"
"Well, I was chosen for the hall of fame."
"What hall of fame?" said Dalton.
"The Pro Football Hall of Fame."
    Turns out the ...

  • Finally, the game

It's been a glorious week in Indianapolis, from the weather to the hospitality. But I think we're all ready for this football game.
Indy has been a great host city, and the weather has been close to perfect. Dallas and Jerry Jones must be envious, because the weather could not have been worse last season. Our judgment on how cities handle Super Bowls is largely determined by the weather. If it's cold (see Atlanta, Dallas), it can be miserable. If it's nice (here, 50 degrees and sunny now), people rave.
Columnist Dan Bickley and I are in our seats already. I'll be ...

  • Aeneas Williams makes Hall of Fame's final 10
    Arizona Cardinals update:
The Hall of Fame selection meeting today was long and arduous. But judging from my five years on the committee, there is never going to one that's not..
I had the privilige of presenting the case for Cardinals cornerback Aeneas Williams to the committee. He's the first Arizona Cardinals draft pick to be among the final 15 modern-day finalists. Williams made it to the final 10 but not the final five. Bernie Miklasz, columnist for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, and Howard Balzer of Sportsxchange.com, made great contributions in favor of Aeneas.
I hope that's an encouraging sign for the future. It often ...
