Xavier closed the regular season with a 14-0 record and ranked No. 1 among state 5A-I badminton teams in the AIA power points.

In the final match of the season, Xavier beat Desert Mountain 7-2. Both of Desert Mountain’s wins involved Emily Harris, the defending state champion.

In No. 1 singles, Harris beat Xavier’s Carissa Pappas 11-1, 11-0.

Harris and Johanna Anderson beat Xavier’s Danielle Dozer and Cate Welch 15-6, 15-10 in the No. 1 doubles match.

Xavier’s No. 2 doubles team, Carissa Pappas and Danielle Mark, beat Emily Hunn and Sheridan Rodriguez 15-4 in the first game. Desert Mountain came back in the second game for a 15-13 win. Pappas and Mark won the deciding third game 15-7.

Xavier’s No. 3  doubles team of Weslie Norris and Julia Friedman also claimed another Xavier victory in a 15-3, 15-0 win.

Regionals for Xavier are Oct. 30 at Desert Mountain.

Xavier won the junior varsity match 9-0.

Among the junior varsity’s standout matches was Xavier’s No. 3 singles match played by Kerstin Ozkan with a clean 11-0, 11-0 win. Jamie Hulsey won 11-2, 11-0. Jessica Michael won 11-2, 11-1.

Xavier also went 14-0 in junior varsity matches.
