The Tempe Buffaloes beat the Arcadia Titans 48-36 in girls basketball Tuesday night at Tempe High.

A 12-point burst by the Buffaloes at the end of the second quarter blew open the game. The Buffs led 28-14 at half.

Tempe took the lead early in the first quarter and never lost it. Both teams played with a lot of energy in the first quarter.

Jenna Longo led the Titans offensively with an assist and a basket off a drive. The Titans played tough defense in the first quarter, pressured the Buffaloes into bad passes and trailed by just three, 11-8, at the end of the quarter.

Tempe’s Jade Wilson outrebounded the Titans and was a big player inside the paint. Anytime the Buffaloes got the ball to Wilson down low, she put points on the scoreboard, finishing with a game-high 16.

Tempe extended its lead to 18, 40-22, at the end of three quarters. Diana Musina had a strong fourth quarter for the Titans. She consistently drove the ball to the hoop and drew several fouls, making 4-of-4 from the line and finishing with eight points. Gianna Grumbein was the leading scorer for Arcadia with nine, including two three-pointers. Longo scored seven.

Mona Dixon had nine points for the Buffaloes.

Arcadia will play Williams Field at home on Friday.
