Arcadia closed out the girls basketball season Tuesday night at home with a 43-22 win over Queen Creek.
It was senior night for the Titans, and the team said goodbye to two of its strongest seniors. Forward Andrea Gomez and post Sonya Szywala played their last game as Titans. Gomez and Szywala both played two varsity seasons.
In the first quarter Arcadia had great ball movement, and consistently got the ball to the seniors so they could shine. Gomez hit a wide open three-pointer, and Arcadia had a 12-point run before they allowed Queen Creek to score.
Arcadia’s Megan Gillespie and Jenna Longo continually drove to the basket. Longo drew several fouls and scored five points in the first quarter, three from the line, as the Titans opened a 12-1 lead after a quarter and 18-6 at half.
The Titans scored most of their points in the third quarter in the paint. Szywala had two and Longo four down low. The Bulldogs were able to get their offense going, and had several successful open shots outside.
The fourth quarter opened up with the Titans leading 30-17. Gomez hit another wide open three-pointer. Longo made two free throws. Brittany Bell hit a three for the Titans towards the end of the quarter.
Gomez and Szywala both played hard the entire game, and ended their season on a good note. Longo was the top scorer for the Titans with 11 points. |
