Tesseract School’s girls varsity basketball team completed a perfect 18-0 season by winning the Charter Athletic Association state basketball championship title for the Varsity B Division.
“What a great feeling—and accomplishment—it is to win a state title,” said Drew Mayer, Tesseract’s athletic director. “Coach (Ben) Boyd did a great job, and the entire team was terrific. You don't go undefeated and win a state championship without an entire team effort on a consistent basis. I am so proud of them all for their accomplishment—it is amazing to realize that this is just our second year with a high school and only the first season we have had a varsity basketball team.”
Tesseract opened its new middle and high school campus in September 2008 with its inaugural freshman class. With the addition of a high school, and Tesseract’s new 10,000 square-foot sports pavilion, the athletic program was able to expand to include varsity sports with the start of the 2009-2010 school year.
Boyd sees this season as an opportunity to serve as a guide the Tigers' complete athetic program.
“The high standards set this season should create a strong work ethic for players in the upcoming seasons,” Boyd said. “Once you get a taste of being on a championship team, your thirst and drive should increase to the next level, and your mindset should be on keeping the same standards, continuing to work hard and repeating successes year in and year out.
“From here on out, the seasons will be building the Tesseract legacy.”
The Tigers roster included Laura Berry, Yorke McGillivray, Sophie Wix, Corinne Oswood, Ilana Rosen-Ducat, Carly Rose, Wasnaa Adnan and Casey Rarrick. |
