Derek Laporte of  Tucson birdied the final hole Tuesday at Maryvale Golf  Course in Phoenix to win the boys championship of the Junior Golf Association of Arizona Winter Classic.

Laporte shot a 3-under par 69 on 6646-yard course to edge Zachary Sarfina of Goodyear by one shot.

Brett Wilson of Mesa shot an even-par 72 and finished in third place.

Sarah Schmelzel of Phoenix shot a 5-over par 77 and won the girls championship flight. She finished three shots ahead of Mieke Cana of Tacna.

Sara Callagy of Anthem won the girls 15-18 division with a 6-over 78.

Tony Simons of Overland Park Kansas and Kevin Trujillo of Peoria tied for first in the boys 15-18, each shooting a 72. Bradley Goodlander of Phoenix was third with a 73.

In the girls 13-14, J.C. Harvison of Mesa shot a 79, finishing ahead of Clarissa Collins of Tempe, who had an 82.

Tyler Kertson of Paradise Valley and Randy Ross of Phoenix each shot 72 to tie for top honors in the boys 13-14 division.
