Gaven Hohl scored an unassisted goal in overtime Tuesday night in Fresno to give the Phoenix Polar Bears a berth in the Western States Hockey League championship series.

Hohl’s goal gave Phoenix a 3-2 victory over the Fresno Monsters and a 2-1 victory in the series. The Polar Bears will face the Boulder Bisons in a three-game series for the Thorne Cup. That series begins Friday.

The Fresno finale was scoreless until the midway through the third period, when Rick Wozniak put the Bears on the scoreboard. John Marsters gave the Bears a 2-0 lead with 4:12 left in the game.

Monte French and Ryan Parkhouse scored goals for Fresno in a 50-second span to tie the game 2-2 and force overtime.
