The Flagstaff Youth Hockey Association lost its home rink at midseason when the roof caved in at Jay Lively Arena but finished the season on a high note Sunday.

Flagstaff teams took home two titles in the Sonoran Youth Hockey League playoffs at the Ice Den in Scottsdale. The North Stars won the Bantam B and PeeWee B championships.  

Bantam B

Flagstaff Northstars 6, Mission AZ Ice 5

Jacob Williams scored three goals, including two in the third period as Flagstaff held off Mission AZ for the championship.

Williams, who also had an assist, scored his final goal with 5:59 left in the game, giving the Northstars a 6-4 lead.

Alex Petrowksi scored his third goal of the game for the Ice with 59 seconds left.

Trey Gonzalez, Elick Boest and Daniel Stephani scored goals for the Northstars.

Gavin Fishenich, Austin Gooch and Mason Lengyel assisted on goals for the Northstars.

Kyle Erwin scored a goal and had two assists for the Ice. Ryan Briody scored goal for the Ice.

Grant Carlstedt had two assists and Briaan Carroll had an assist for the Ice.

Oliver Boerst made 39 saves for the Northstars. Anthony “Train” Ciurro made 34 for the Ice.

PeeWee B

Flagstaff Northstars 4, Las Vegas Ice Cats 0

John Gallo stopped 14 shots as the Northstars blanked the Ice Cats in the title game.

Parker Couglin scored two goals and assisted on one for the North Stars, and Noah Sparks had two assists. J.T. Nicol and Mason Johnsn scored goals in the victory. Will Aldrigde and David Crawford had assists for Flagstaff.

Squirt A

Polar Bears 6, Junior Coyotes 2

Jack Kirkpatrick scored three goals and Mark Kastelic scored two as the Bears won the championship game. Alex Rhigi scored the other goal for the Bears.

Drew Grabek had two assists for the Bears. Parker Hunley, Noah Duke, Collin McHugh and Evan Shupe has assist in the victory.

Tristan Hadley turned away 11 shots in the victory.

Hayden Hirsch and Alex Kurpinsky scored goals for the Coyotes. Erik Middendorf, Sean Bunting and Adam Bricker had assists.

Squirt B

Jr. Coyotes 2, VOSHA Mustangs 1

Del Perina scored with 42 seconds left to lift the Coyotes to the championship.

Perina set up the Coyotes first goal, scored by Cameron Power late in the first period.

Dylan Anderson tied the game for the Mustangs about four minutes later. Josh Roof assisted on the goal.

The tight-checking game remained tied until Perina scored the winner. Andrei Lyscas and Brock Sottile assisted on the game-winner.

Charland Armand made 20 saves for the Mustangs.

Zach Klein turned away nine shots for the Coyotes.

Mite B

Phoenix Polar Bears 10, DYHA Firebirds 1

Aiden Coupe scored two goals had an assist as the Bears won the championship.

Carter Newlin and Jackson McBride each scored a goal and had an assist, and Kylar Nietzel scored two goals in the victory. Nicholas Smith, Daniel Obarski , Jacob Wreschner, and Riley Stuart scored goals for the Bears. Cade Rogue added an assist.

Jonathon Szekeres and Jacob Membrila shared the goaltending duties for the Bears.

Mark Gordon scored the Firebirds’ goal. David Hymovitch had the assist.

Pee Wee A

New Mexico Renegades 2, Mission AZ Ice 0

Vin Matrandrea scored unassisted two goals, the final with 5 seconds left in the game, as New Mexico took home the title. Max Lucas stopped seven shots in the shutout victory.

Bantam A

Las Vegas Ice Cats 6, Firebirds 1

Sidney Thomas scored three goals  as the Ice Cats, playing their thrid game of the day, won the title. Kyro Kraemer, Hayden Breceda and Benji Petros scored goals for the Ice Cats. Steven Hoernicke and Brenan Blaszczack each had two assists. Eric Williams and Justin Battaglia each had an assist.

Jake Hoekstra scored the Firebirds goal, assisted by Jack D'Anna and Lorenzo Sei.

Domink Casersino made 17 saves in the victory.

Michael Norris stopped 17 shots for the Ice.

The clutch hits just keep on coming for the Sun Devils.

Former Brophy star Drew Maggi' singled up the middle in the ninth inning to score former Brophy star Raoul Torrez and keep Arizona State unbeaten after 23 games. Maggi’s walk-off single gave the Sun Devils a 3-2 victory over Cal and a three-game sweep of the season-opening Pac-10 baseball series for both schools.

It was the third straight sellout at Packard Stadium at Brock Ballpark.

Maggi went 3-for-4 and scored ASU’s first run. Riccio Torrez also had three hits in the win.

ASU starter Jake Borup struck out a career-high 13 hitters in 7 2/3 innings, allowing one run and two hits, but left the game trailing 1-0.

Cal scored in the first on an RBI groundout by Mark Canha to take an early 1-0 lead.

ASU took the lead in the eighth. Maggi opened with a single off starter Dixon Anderson and scored when Buckeye grade Kole Calhoun doubled. Riccio Torrez singled to drive Calhoun in.

Canha doubled in a run, tying the game at 2.

Jordan Swagerty was credited with the victory.
