The Coyotes took a two-goal lead into the final period Sunday at Gilbert Polar Ice and were able to hold off hard charges by the Peoria Roadrunners for 3-2 victory and the Sonoran Hockey League Squirt B playoff title.

The Sonoran Hockey League playoffs were held as part of the Grand Canyon State Games.

“Every team took it up for the playoffs,’’ Coyotes coach Tony Radke said. “Our whole team stepped up. Younger kids, older kids, they all came through when we needed them.”

Radke praised his rivals.

“We played the Roadrunners in all kinds of sitations this season,’’ Radke said. “I can’t say enough about them. They’re really a classy team.”

The Coyotes players were Alex Heinritz, Ryan Eghlimi, Hauk Comstock, Brock Sottile, Barrett Rosser, Jeremy Masella, Zack Merchant, Bradley Woodroffe, Jake Jones, Luke Hicks, Login Hicks, Blake Hermann, Ryan Berger, Jack Dobbins, Ryan Radke and Trevor Wightman.
