The Arcadia Broncos beat the two-time defending champion Scottsdale Mustangs 8-6 and won the 2010 Cactus Cup lacrosse tournament, taking home the gold for the first time since 2006.
Twenty Arizona Junior High lacrosse teams were entered in the tournament, and the Broncos, 6th-8th-graders mostly from Ingleside Middle School and St. Theresa's, played six games in 24 hours and went 6-0 to win the crown.
Nick Shein had four goals and an assist against the Mustangs. Will Edwards had two goals. Goal keeper Matt Baniszewski made 11 saves.
“I couldn’t have asked for a better ending to the season,” first-year coach Mark McLoone said.
“The guys have worked hard all year, and deserve this prestigious award.”
