Hannah Carson, a junior at Chandler High School, won the women’s javelin competition Saturday at the 2010 U.S. Area Youth Olympic Selection Trials in Arlington, Texas.

Carson, competing for the Arizona Cheetahs, threw 52.36 meters (171 feet, 9.4 inches) to win it.

The 2010 U.S. Area Youth Olympic Selection Trials were designed to choose athletes for the Youth Olympic Games. However, track officials said participation is the meet was not necessary to make the team. The first Youth Olympic Games will be held in Singapore this summer.

Carson finished third in the discus (37.01 meters) and fourth in the shot put (12.77).
