Ryan Silva set an apparent state record time in the youth (14u) boys 1500 meters last weekend at the USATF Arizona State championships at Mesa Community College.

Silva, competing unattached, finished in 4 minutes, 21.41 seconds, eclipsing the 4:21.52 he ran last summer that broke Jeff Canada’s 28-year-old record.

Silva’s 4:21.52 is list as the USATF age group state record. The association last updated its list in December.

Another notable performance the two-day meet (5/30-5/31) came in from Aaron Ramirez. Ramirez, the defending national champion and competing unattached, won the midget (12u) boys javelin with a throw of 46.31 meters.

That was short of his mark of 47.96 meters last month, which is believed to be the state record.

Ramirez holds the listed record of 45.22, set last summer.

Tehran Thomas of Arizona Saints set an apparent record in the bantam boys (10u) long jump, winning with a leap of 4.87 meters.

The listed record is 4.75 by Dajon Griffin set last summer.
