Samantha Collins of Westwood High School and the Arizona Flames was fifth in heptathlon after the first day of competition at the USA Junior Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Ore.

Collins accumulated 2870 points Saturday in the first four events -- 100 meter hurdles, high jump, shot put and 200. Ryann Krais of UCLA led with 3178.

The final events are Sunday.

Will Claye of Oklahoma, a Mountain Pointe High School graduate, was second in the junior men's long jump. The former Do Right and Arizona Cheetahs star leaped 25-7.25.

Hannah Carson of Chandler High School and the Arizona Cheetahs finished 17th in the junior women's javelin with a mark of 120 feet, 10 inches. That was well off her season best of 152-11.
