Mountain Pointe High School alumnus Will Claye set a meet record in the triple jump Sunday at the 2009 USA Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Ore.

Claye, the American junior record holder and 2009 NCAA champion at Oklahoma, won the junior men's triple jump with a mark of 17.14 meters, or 56 feet 3 inches. His mark was wind-aided. It was four centimeters short of his U.S. junior record. The previous meet record was 16.61 meters by Reggie Jackson of Fresno State in 1988.

"Today I just came out here, feeling good. I wasn't feeling very good yesterday after the long jump, but I woke up feeling great today,'' Claye told a meet representative. "God just put a spark in me this morning and jumped far. That was good."

Claye was the runner-up in Saturday's long-jump competition with a leap of 7.80 meters (25-7.25).

Samantha Collins of Westwood High School and the Arizona Flames finished 15th in the junior women's heptathlon with 4125 points.
