The Xavier Gators swept the Mesa Jackrabbits 25-18, 25-14, 25-10 Tuesday night in girls volleyball at Mesa High School.

Setter Stephanie Preach had seven kills and 23 assists for the Gators, the state's top-ranked team by maxpreps.com. Lauren Prechel had eight kills for Xavier, and Bianca Arrellano had seven kills and nine digs.

Outside hitter Heidi Brinton led Mesa with six kills.

Mesa coach Amy Strawn of Mesa said her team was disappointed.

“They are going to regroup for a tough Desert Vista match,’’ she said. “When we play Xavier later in the season, we hope to be more competitive.”

Xavier and Mesa will match up again for another game at Mesa on October 22.
