Sereno White 98 beat the 98 AZ Thunder Gold 5-0 in State League Division 1 U12 girls soccer Sunday morning at Reach 11.

“After an emotional game last night (a 1-1 draw with U12 co-leader San Tan Legacy Red) where none of our shots would go in, it was nice to put all our shots away and secure the game in the first half,” said Sereno head coach Matt Midkiff.

Josee Jacobellis scored Sereno’s first goal when she followed up a ball that the Thunder goalie bobbled. Less than five mintues later, Kassidy Madrigal scored after receiving a back pass from Gina Bracamonte, who collected the ball from the Thunder goalie after she deflected a long free kick.

After a very physical ten minutes, Jenna Parkhurst, who is playing two years up, put away Sereno’s third goal with a left-footed shot just outside the box.

Courtney Langford dribbled through two defenders and around the goalie to pass in Sereno’s last goal of the half.

Sereno (2-1-1) put away one more goal late in the second half to secure the win.

“It’s a little tough for us during these physical games since we’re a small team,” Midkiff said, “but we played great and didn’t come out flat. It’s only going to get better from here.”
