The Scottsdale Blackhawks 98 played first-place Banat 98 to a 1-1 draw Sunday morning in girls U12 State League action at Reach 11.

The tie, along with San Tan Legacy Red’s 6-0 win over SC Del Sol, left Banat and San Tan tied atop the U12 girls standings with 11 points and identical 3-0-2 records. The Blackhawks (2-1-3) are third with nine points.

Banat scored the first goal of the game and the only goal in the first half when Kayla Terhune beat a defender and took a quick shot into the corner of the Blackhawks’ net.

Scottsdale came back to score the only goal in the second when Reece Benally took a free kick from the left side which bounced off the crossbar and was followed up and finished by Alyssa Stephenson.

“We gave up a bit in the second half,” said Banat head coach Mark Leicester. “I think a tie was a fair score.”
