CISCO Black 98 managed to stay alive in the U12 boys State Cup with a 1-0 victory over the Yuma Inferno on Sunday at Reach 11 in Phoenix.

“We get to play again next weekend,’’ CISCO coach Ramiz Sabljic said. “It wasn’t pretty, but we’re still in it.”

CISCO scored midway through the second half. Shane Rodosta played the ball into Angel Torres, who sent a shot across the goal mouth. Rudy Escuchia used his body to deflect it into the goal.

The Inferno turned up the pressure, but the defense led by Saul Valenica and J.J. Jimenez and goal keeper Mitchell Bacon were able to keep the Yuma team at bay.

“We had some chances,’’ Inferno coach Justin Smith said. “We just couldn’t get the ball in the net.”

CISCO lost its opener in Tucson on Saturday afternoon.

“Both games were in the afternoon, so it was hot,’’ Sabljic said. “We had to make the long trip back and regroup.”

CISCO will take on FBSL Academicos '98 in an elimination game at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Westside Sports Complex.
