Banat Gold beat San Tan Legacy ’96 Red 2-0 Saturday in the first round of the 2010 State Cup U14 girls tournament at Reach 11 Sports Complex.

The first Banat goal was scored late in the second half by Anna Gregolynsky, who was in the perfect position behind the San Tan defense to easily finish a one touch shot on the far post off a high cross from the left.

Andrea Ortiz scored Banat’s second goal less than a minute after Gregolynsky. She put away a hard, direct shot from just outside the 18 yard box. Ortiz made several successful runs down the sideline before her goal, creating many chances for Banat throughout the game.

The play in the first half of the game was even and physical.
